Marijuana comes in many shapes and sizes and non-edible and edible products. Not only that, but cannabis also has several different terms that come along with it. We’ve put together another list of 19 marijuana terms that will help you educate yourself about the cannabis plant. Plus, if you’re reading this, there is a good chance that you are a fan of smoking weed in a triple blown glass pipe or consuming marijuana. These terms will help you understand the unique plant that is cannabis and how it can work best for you.
Joint – a term commonly used to describe a marijuana cigarette or pre-roll. One of the cool things about joints is that once you’re done smoking them there is no clean up. Glass pipes on the other hand can be quite messy, which makes joints the perfect thing to smoke when you’re on the go. There can be both THC in a joint and just CBD in a joint.
Kief – a concentrated amount of trichomes that are collected after naturally falling off the plant. Kief is more potent than your normal cannabis buds because it’s concentrated. Kief is also the main ingredient used when making hashish. Many smokers put kief on top of their glass pipes when they are smoking a bowl. Learning how to clean a grinder and save kief is also a very important skill.
Kush – a term referring to marijuana plants that originate from the Hindu Kush Mountains in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Kush plants that originate from this area are indicas that have a piney, earthy aroma. Kush can also be used to simply refer to cannabis like weed, marijuana, or pot.
Major Cannabinoids – The most common cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant Tetrahydrocannaidiol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD).
Minor Cannabinoids – all other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant that is not Tetrahydrocannaidiol (THC) or Cannabidiol (CBD).
Mother – this term is used to describe a female cannabis plant that growers use for cloning and breeding. Mother plants normally have strong genetics, overall plant health and desired effects from the final product. These plants are very important to have a successful growing operation.
Neurotransmitter – A messenger of neurological formation from one cell to another. You can read more about Cannabis Helping To Increase Creativity.
Phenol – Active compounds produced by cannabis and other plants and microorganisms consisting of aromatic hydrocarbons, which contribute to the unique scent of every strain. Some examples pf phenols:
- Bisphenol A.
- Chlorophenol.
- Picric acid.
- Salicylic acid.
- Cresol.
- Naphthol.
- Resorcinol.
- Pyrogallol.
Phenotype – this term is used to describe a plant’s unique characteristics and physical traits like scent, taste, appearance, impact and efficiency. Phenotypes are the expression of genetics in the physical growing environment. So with cannabis, it is the chemo-profile in each cultivar that measures the expression of the plant (Cannabinoid content and Terpenoid content) which is available on a certificate of analysis. Plants with the same genetics can have different phenotypes if they are grown under different conditions. So indoor cannabis is usually much different than outdoor weed, even if you are growing the same strain.
Phytocannabinoids – Medically active compounds found in the hemp and marijuana plants that are similar in structure and function to endocannabinoids naturally produced by mammals. How Phytocannabinoids interact with and support the ECS to “regulate regulation,” promoting homeostasis, or “balance.”
Pipes – a metal piece or glass piece used to smoke weed. Pipes are also called weed pieces, weed pipes, bowls, and glass weed pipes. With all the cool bowls for weed out there every piece seems to be unique. You can find glass pipes at your local smoke shop, or you can find a cheap weed pipe online using online smoke shops.
Pot – a slang term used to describe marijuana which is most commonly used for smoking bowls, joints and dry herb vapor.
Receptors – A chemical group or molecule on or in our cells that has an affinity for a specific chemical group, molecule, or virus. In the Endocannabinoid System, receptors have an affinity for endocannabinoids. In other words after you smoke your cannabis the cannabinoids travel into your Endocannabinoid System’s receptors in order to give you that high effect.
Recreational Marijuana – The use of marijuana products to induce pleasure, euphoria, relaxation, and to enhance sociability. The main difference between recreational and medical marijuana is largely due to social stigma and perception, which makes using cannabis for enjoyment a taboo topic. Even in the recreational market, ensuing unique marijuana pipes, cannabis products are used for a wide range of health benefits, blurring the line between recreational and medical use. In many states a medical card acts as a discount card because recreational marijuana is taxed much higher than medical marijuana purchases. But the truth is that it’s exactly the same as medical. There is no difference. Only what it’s used for. But even if you are smoking recreationally, you still receive the medical benefits of cannabis.
Sativa – a scientific term used to describe a cannabis sativa plant which is a species of marijuana. Sativa is also used to describe a high feeling that marijuana produces that is more stimulating with cerebral effects than an indica. Most Sativa strains have been bred out of the current hybrids as amateur breeders have been breeding for higher THC and most of the cultivars out there are Indicas.
Strain – a specific variety of plant species that are usually named by their breeder. Most strains are specifically developed for certain desired effects. Strains are distinguished by appearance, aroma, location of origin and cannabinoid and terpene content. But, strain, is a term used to describe bacterium or fungus. They should be called cultivars.
