The public’s perception of cannabis is changing. Once seen as a “gateway drug,” it is now being embraced by the medical community and revered for its therapeutic benefits. From relieving pain to reducing nausea, cannabis has been shown to improve quality of life in many who use it. But what are the benefits of marijuana? While more research is needed on the long-term effects of this drug, here are some immediate health benefits that have been proven by extensive scientific research. Hi everyone, I’m Christine Sclafani….👩⚕️
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system that disrupts communication between the brain 🧠 and other parts of the body. Symptoms vary from person to person, but commonly include muscle spasms, stiffness, fatigue, depression, cognitive difficulties, and pain. If you have MS and are considering medical marijuana, talk to your doctor🩺. Like painkillers, cannabis has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving quality of life in people diagnosed with MS.
Cannabis can also be used for treating symptoms of other neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease. A study published 📖 by the journal NeuroReport found that patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease experienced a significant increase in improvement of motor dysfunction after using cannabis. While it has not yet been proven that cannabis 🍁 can completely cure these neurodegenerative disorders, it is a safe and fast-acting treatment option that may prove beneficial.
A study published in June 2020 estimated that the use of medical cannabis is associated with a 14% reduction in cases of mild cognitive impairment.
As with the many other neurodegenerative diseases, 🧠 there is currently no known cure But by utilizing the medications already on the market, we can slow the progression of this disease. A greater understanding of the cannabis treatment intervention for neurodegenerative disorders may provide a way for researchers and doctors to treat these diseases more effectively and in a preventative fashion.
Multiple sclerosis is a nerve disorder that affects multiple joints and can affect any part of the nervous system. The symptoms of MS can be debilitating.
