Earlier this year, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk raised some eyebrows following some posts on social media and a rather candid interview with the New York Times. It all started after Musk posted a tweet saying that Tesla would be going private at the conspicuous cost of $420. This tweet led cannabis enthusiasts around the globe to wonder if the entrepreneur used weed himself.
Does Elon Musk smoke weed? Yes, indeed he does smoke marijuana. He joined Joe Rogan on the Joe Rogan Show podcast a few months after the initial tweet about going private at $420, and smoked a spliff with Rogan that was mixed with marijuana and tobacco. The interview and behavior of Musk alarmed investors and many people began to question his behavior. The most recent backlash from his behavior came from NASA in which they have come to question the contract they have with SpaceX to shuttle astronauts to and from the International Space Station. Musk is the founder and CEO of SpaceX and starting next year NASA with conduct a safety review of SpaceX employees that is anticipated to last at least a few months. The Administrator for NASA, Jim Bridenstine recently told reporters that Musk’s behavior, “did not inspire confidence.”
Recently, Tesla investors decided they wanted to subpoena a former lover of Elon Musk, Claire Elise Boucher, a musician that goes by the name Grimes. Supposedly, on the night that Mr. Musk sent out the notorious tweet that led to everyone asking, does Elon Musk smoke weed, he was with Ms. Boucher along with rapper Azealia Banks. Both women have been open about their evening with Elon and have suggested he was doing more than just smoking weed that night. Azealia Banks has been fuming on social media over the court case saying that she waited around for hours while Boucher explained to Elon Musk that tweeting while on acid is a bad idea.
On top of all that drama, Musk is the face of an online cryptocurrency scam he has nothing to do with. A group of scammers created a website called SpaceX.Delivery where it showed a list of fake crypto transactions. People were offered free Bitcoin and Ether crypto, but only after they acquire the crypto and sends it out. They get nothing back in return though. They even use the Tesla logo and everything. Nobody is giving crypto away, that makes zero sense. But if you tangle with the cannabis industry, you are wound to get sucked into the world of cryptos in some fashion.
Musk has since addressed the speculation caused by his tweet in a subsequent interview with the New York Times where he confirmed that he was in fact not stoned when he posted it, stating, “It seemed like better karma at $420 than at $419…But I was not on weed, to be clear. Weed is not helpful for productivity. There’s a reason for the word ‘stoned.’ You just sit there like a stone on weed.” The 47-year-old, who is famous for his tenacious work ethic, also went on to talk about the significant toll that running Tesla has had on his mental health. He explained that 120 hour weeks were pretty common and said, “This means bedtime is often a choice of no sleep, or Ambien.”
Weed enthusiasts as well as Tesla fans did not like the news however, with the person(s) who run a Twitter account under the moniker ‘Self-appointed Pope Of Muskanity’ tweeting “The saddest thing I’ve heard on the news today is that Elon Musk wasn’t on weed when he tweeted about going private at 420$.” Sam Houston, a senior community manager at a tech security firm joined in saying: “I will gladly buy Elon Musk a better strain of weed for his productivity.”
Perhaps Mr. Musk could benefit from the medicinal effects of weed and related products given some of his statements during an interview published on Thursday by The New York Times. Musk was quoted as saying during an emotional recent interview, “This past year has been the most difficult and painful year of my career.” The conversation with the Times is on the heels of some unrest caused by a tweet from Musk where he said that funding had been secured to take the electric car maker private. This shocking statement naturally created some serious volatility in the company’s stock price all the while prompting several lawsuits and catching the eye of some regulatory bodies.
Musk is making the argument that by taking his company private, Tesla would be relieved of the “enormous pressure” piled on by Wall Street’s very high expectations. However, there are many doubts as to whether or not he will be able to get the deal done. Given Musk’s recent statements and with so much up in the air, it is no surprise that the company’s stock has been negatively affected as Tesla’s (TSLA) price is sitting at $308 a share as of this Friday afternoon.
Are you disappointed to find out that Elon Musk doesn’t smoke weed? Do you think that Musk will be able to accomplish his lofty goal and close on a deal to make Tesla private? Should someone make a new strain called Elon Musk weed?
