In a recent move, the Biden administration is excluding service members convicted of marijuana crimes from receiving presidential pardons. This decision comes after previous pardons given to military members convicted of other offenses.
This move will likely exclude a large number of service members from receiving pardons, as marijuana crimes are still considered a Schedule I drug under federal law. This change comes as part of the Biden administration’s focus on rehabilitation and prevention over punishment, but it’s likely to upset many service members who have already been punished for their crimes.
