Man Dies While Unloading $12 Million Worth Of Marijuana From Van

Fox 8 reports:

Police say a man was found dead next to $12 million worth of marijuana in Georgia.

According to Gwinnett County Police, officers were called to the scene at Norcross Truck Storage, at around 11 a.m. Monday.

According toย WXIA, a man was found slumped over near a white van and a tractor-trailer. When officers arrived, the man was already dead.

While waiting for the medical examiner to arrive at the scene, officers said they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the van.

After the body was taken from the area, officers began an inventory of the van to be impounded.

An officer opened a box in the van and found marijuana in sealed bags. Similar boxes were seen in the back of a nearby tractor-trailer.

After obtaining a search warrant, police said several hundred pounds of marijuana worth about $12 million were seized.

Police identified the man as 31-year-old Johnny Taylor. Authorities said it appears Taylor died of natural causes, as there were no signs of trauma to his body.

According to police, security footage showed a man dropping off the tractor-trailer around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. That man left in a passenger vehicle. Shortly after the tractor-trailer was dropped off, ย Taylor pulled in, in the white van.

Police have interviewed the man who dropped off the tractor-trailer for Taylor. ย They have not arrested him. ย They are investigating whether the tractor-trailer was empty when the man dropped it off, and that he may not have known that the cargo Taylor was going to load into it was pot.

The man returned to the parking lot Monday while police were there investigating, and thatโ€™s when they interviewed him. ย He told police he was there because the now-dead-man had asked for lessons on how to drive the big rig.
