‘Mary Janes: The Women of Weed’ Documentary

Saturday night marked the Colorado premier of ‘Mary Janes: The Women of Weed,’ a new documentary film which focuses primarily on the growing female presence in the burgeoning marijuana industry! The film was showcased at the Alamo Drafthouse for a group of over 30 cannabis entrepreneurs that had participated on the project.

It comes as little to no surprise that a significant portion of the women featured in the film come from and operate in the state of Colorado, considering the longstanding legalization efforts that have taken place there over the last few years. The film’s director and producer, Windy Borman, hopes that the documentary will help celebrate the efforts of women in the cannabis markets and hopefully inspire as well as encourage others to join an industry where women can make a significant difference while still achieving personal and professional success!

Nearly half of the 33 entrepreneurs featured in new documentary, โ€œMary Janes: The Women of Weedโ€, are from the Centennial State. The film directed and produced by filmmaker Windy Borman made itโ€™s Colorado premier Saturday night at the sold out Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Littleton.

Among the cannabis power players in attendance were Karin Lazarus, founder of Sweet Mary Jane Bakery; Wanda James, founder and CEO of Simply Pure; and Dr. Daniela Vergar, founder of Agricultural Genomics Research Institute. The trio joined Borman for a post-film Q&A durring which the director told told the audience that she was inspired to pursue the film by statistics showing that the nascent cannabis industry boasts the best gender parity of any industry in the country.

The director hopes that showing the success and diversity of the women of weed will show other women that there are opportunities for them in the industry.
