Charlize Theron Reflects On Her Marijuana Use
It may come as a big surprise to some, but Hollywood superstar and Oscar winner Charlize Theron was at one time an avid marijuana user! The star of the critically acclaimed films ‘Fury Road’ and ‘Monster’ sat down with E! News recently to promote her upcoming action comedy ‘Gringo.’ The film, which revolves around the invention and production of a marijuana pill, naturally leads the conversation to cannabis use.
Theron, a self proclaimed ex-“wake-and-baker,” expounds on her first time smoking pot, her appreciation for marijuana over drinking alcohol, as well as how she stopped using it once it made her “boring.” However, she has not written off turning to marijuana as an alternative to sleeping pills for her insomnia and plans to look into it soon along with her mother who also suffers from sleep issues. Given the large variety of strains available that are geared towards treating insomnia, we’re sure she’ll find one that will help both her and her mom! You can catch the full interview with Charlize and co-star David Oyelowo below and be sure to check out ‘Gringo’ in theaters starting on March 9th!
โYes, oh god yes,ย I was a wake-and-baker for most of my life,โ the Oscar-winning film actress toldย E!โsย Sibley Scoles when asked if sheโd ever smoked cannabis in her life.
Theron, joined in the Feb. 26 interview byย Gringoย co-star David Oyelowo, continued: โYeah, I was older, I didnโt really mess around with anything until I was much older. I really appreciated marijuana way more than alcohol or anything else. I was smokinโ from a bong. And then it just changed one day, in my early thirties, I just became boring on it. It totally changed. So I stopped.โ
At 42, Theron hasnโt sworn off the plant entirely. She said she would beย โopen to retrying it againโ since, โnow thereโs all these different strains and you can be specific with it. And Iโm actually really interested because I have really bad insomnia, and Iโd much rather get off sleeping pills and figure out a strain that helps me sleep better.โ
